Chapter 6 - Meeting Mr.Wilson ( Continued..)

"Good Morning....sir", Raul greeted Mr. Wilson, eager to break the silence and enter into a conversation to figure out the purpose of him being summoned by the high office.

Raul understood life in a peculiar way. For him, life is a linear sequence of scares like that of a fun-house; an illusion that get amplified in the fog of thoughts. Take it or leave it is the only choice given. Makes you think about free will: His maxim was always been "you don't choose life, life chooses you". This made him well grounded, even when facing the toughest of situations.

"Mr.Sunil Joseph spoke very high of you when he recommended you to the department head of Training and Development Division" said Mr.Wilson.

Raul, sat forward on the edge of his chair, leaning forward. "Yes, he has been a very good manager for me, sir"

"I have been looking at some data. You are doing an impressive job, considering the level of efficiency you have achieved in a short spell." Mr. Wilson said, peering into some papers he had on his desk.

"Sir, our team is working to achieve the milestones set for the current year."  replied Raul in a general sense of things, his voice well moderated.

"We have a few concerns and I want to know what we can do about this"
"Sir.."

Raul felt an unease on the inside. He is not well known on his charming side going by the character adjectives bestowed on him by his subordinates.
Mr. Wilson was staring at him intensely. That made Raul even more uncomfortable.

"Your department, the R&D in particular has the least amount of security related incidents...zero data breaches.. since you took over. The methodology you employed seems to be effective."- Mr.Wilson paused looking at Raul.

"Physical access denial, surveillance and coupling it with JANET (A security related software custom made for data security) seems to hold good sir. I moved around the pieces which I have, stressing more on physical access denial sir. This was apart from the already set protocols, we have in place at corporate level" replied Raul.

"Go on..." said Mr.Wilson.

"Sir, we are under the impression that, since people inside an organization have the most access to sensitive data, and when trust is broken, a breach is a common outcome. We increased the surveillance on every single work stations, individual behaviors ,enforced the code of conduct and the rules. Sort of like an offensive defense..sir. "

Raul knows that he and his team responsible for data security was always at war with known and unknown forces and it is way much more elaborate than he briefed the CEO.
One of the most haunting and damaging of it was the internal data breach. An internal data breach (this method comprises a whopping 42 percent of all attacks) is committed on purpose either by an angry employee or someone else internal to the organization who’s looking to sell the information for profit. A data breach occurs at the point in time when the rogue individual manages to move sensitive data from the internal network to an external drive or location.

"Did you have any trouble enforcing the new model?" asked Mr.Wilson.

Was that trick question, at least Raul thought so. The enforcing part is what earned him a lot of names from his subordinates.

"Well!! a bit sir. We solved it using a series of department specific orientation programs. Once the purpose was ingrained, we were able to restore the order sir."- Raul felt good answering that question.

Mr. Wilson sat back, studying Raul.

Raul was playing back, his response to the last question in his head many a times.

"You really have an impressive profile. You started working early..."- said Mr.Wilson
The CEO seemed to have made up his mind even before he summoned Raul.

"Sir..my faculty recommended me to EUROTECH Inc while I was in the second year at college.."

"You have a wealth of experience and you are realistic. Let me see what more you can do!!" - said Mr.Wilson with a smile
Mr Wilson continued- "We are looking to land a new project from UK .
I want your expertise and consultation on this project from its inception to its implementation."

"sir.I will do what I can." replied Raul.

Raul felt much at ease. Deep inside he felt elated at preparing himself up for a  new challenge but at the same time, his conscience told him to be on guard and on the double.

"I will share the details in your email. You will be directly reporting to me on this" said Mr.Wilson.

"Understood ..sir..." replied Raul.

"We may have a meeting on it tomorrow. I will notify you.You may leave now."

"Sir. Thank you for giving me this opportunity. I will do my best" -Raul said as he stood up from his chair. He collected his document folder from the chair next to him, nodded and walked out of the room.

This was the beginning of a deep friendship between Raul and the old man Mr.Wilson.

In the Moscow Bound Tain:

Hunger woke Raul from his half sleep. He couldn't delay his breakfast anymore. He got up from the berth. He took the map and his iPhone from the coffee table. He placed the map in the side pocket of his back pack. He got out locking the cabin door behind him.

He looked through the large window to the left of the corridor along the cabin.
The world  outside was all blanketed white with snow, the sun showering down luminous bright. He moved along the corridor to the conductors cabin, where he bought noodles and a bottle of mineral water. The train has a samovar. He poured hot water from the samovar over the noodles and gently stirred it. Raul came back inside the cabin with the noodles and a bottle of water.

He sat on the couch and began eating the noodles. It was the tastiest noodle he has ever eaten. Hunger, has a way of making even the blanch food delicious .
