CHAPTER 2 - Train to Moscow Cont..
The damp soft squeal of the train machinery filled the cabin. It gently rocked him as he laid back, half asleep in his thoughts. The orange and apple red morning light scattered through the snowy morning and poured into the cabin.
Everything in his life had started out black and white. Somewhere down the paths of life, it went blurry, colors fading, getting smudged and gray. Life as the wise ones say comes with two miseries - getting what you don't want and not getting what you really want.
A decade back, while he started his career in the industry, he was the best and celebrated much for his knowledge on the subject and his foresight. Well! not everyone subscribed to his "work culture" of "getting it done"; they thought he was too much of a risk.
He was young and wild but he took the responsibility up front, one of the reason why the old man, Mr.Karl Wilson supported him, in fact it was him that saw the spark in Raul Zaitsev, when he first joined his business empire.
Mr. Wilson is a man of excellent character. He always quips with his friends that he is "GREY, BUT STILL GREEN AT 80 REFUSING TO FADE". Having worked around the world as an advisor for many nations and a longer spell with UN itself, he was an empire state building of life experiences. He can never be wrong when he took Raul to his side.
Raul, when he joined the company, ruffled many. He uses a very unorthodox approach to the problems he faced.Hurdles, issues, office politics and bureaucracy didn't stop him from leading his projects. He was as sharp as a surgical knife slicing through every layer of hurdles and at times, never thinking twice to fudge rules to get things done.
Part of his character was dominated by the life experiences he acknowledged with less remorse. Being a single child of his parents, finding solace in books and having his inner thoughts as his companion all along, solving his own problems, he had achieved a certain degree of independence and insight.
He kept a set of certain rules for himself which he never broke. It was as if him and his conscience formed some kind of a dark syndicate with these unwritten code of conduct. He was of the opinion that these rules kept him on the guard and out of trouble.
Raul is a simple man with very complex character of contrasts and Mr.Wilson found the right tool in him.
